The
healing process is aided by gentle movement so for the rest of the day following
a treatment, if you find yourself sitting for long periods, I recommend that
you get up and move around every so often. I also recommend that you go for a 15 minute
walk every day, preferably on level ground, being conscious of how you are
placing your weight on each foot and of how you are holding your body. I believe part of the reason behind the
effectiveness of Bowen Therapy is connected with the increased conscious awareness
it brings to particular areas of the body and any ‘locked up’ emotions that may
be associated with those areas. By doing
this ‘homework’ of going for a walk every day whilst being aware of how you are
walking, you are expanding on processes initiated during the Bowen Session - it
is my opinion that you will neutralise the imbalance of disease quicker with
this assistance.
I recommend that you don’t apply massage or other bodywork treatments, heat (hot showers, spa, hot water bottle, electric blanket, heat inducing creams), or ice to your body for at least 48 hours after a treatment. All of these have the potential to interfere with the changes that were initiated during the treatment. If you feel any soreness after treatment, be aware that this discomfort is a temporary part of the healing process and will improve as your body adjusts. Stretch gently and keep mobile – it will soon pass.
The gentle signals given during a Bowen treatment switch on the parasympathetic nervous system, which is associated with a state of relaxation. To give your body a chance to heal and adjust to the changes which occur after the treatment, you are best to avoid strenuous exercise or activities for at least 48 hours. If you stress your body too hard and too soon after a treatment, the healing process will be disrupted and your old holding patterns of tension may return. To lessen your chances of re-injury, please be aware of your movements after treatment. Make sure you bend your knees and do not overreach or twist when picking up an object. To pick up an object correctly, move close to it prior to lifting, tightening stomach muscles as you lift. If you have had a jaw treatment, please do not open your mouth wide to bite, or eat hard, chewy foods such as apples, steak, gum, nuts, etc.
It’s really important to drink lots of water after a treatment. For energetic flow to be re-established to an area of the body that has become dis-eased, hydration of that tissue is essential. Water is also important in terms of helping to flush out toxic waste that has been accumulated by certain tissues. Most people, depending on their diet, require at least two litres of water per day (this doesn’t include caffeinated, fizzy drinks or juice). It is a good cleansing strategy to start your day with a large glass of (not too cold) water. As a tonic, to this you can add a tablespoon of raw Apple Cider Vinegar and a teaspoon of raw honey.
Patients should return for additional treatments if needed within 5-10 days of their last Bowen Session. Other forms of treatment, given 4 days before, or up to five days after a Bowen session, may interfere with its effectiveness.

Bowen Therapy
does not interfere with the effectiveness of any other therapy or orthodox
medical prescribed medicines.
Bowen Therapy is safe to use on anyone and everyone - this includes pregnant women, babies, children, anyone who is chronically ill, and also elderly folk. It is also very effective on animals.
TO HELP OVERCOME CURRENT PROBLEMS AND AVOID FUTURE PROBLEMS:
Take your weight evenly on both feet.
Don’t slouch on one hip or lean to one side. This places too much strain on the pelvic region and the back.
If you are required to stand in one spot for any length of time, keeping body weight even, simply ‘break’ the back of the knees ever-so slightly. Or, if possible, place buttocks and back flat against a wall and, maintaining weight evenly on both feet, relax.
Entering of alighting from a car
When getting out of a car, we tend to ‘throw’ a leg out and start walking. To avoid severe strain on the pelvic region in particular, keep knees together as much as practicable, swing the legs out and place both feet on the ground together.
Crossing your legs.
Don’t cross your legs. It may place too much strain on your body, especially the pelvic. It is a bad habit that can be broken.
Out of the back pocket.
Objects in your back pocket, such as wallets, may create a pelvic imbalance when you sit and cause you problems or negate the healing process. Keep the hip pocket empty.
